This bracket is designed to support the shower rod as well as cap it. I didn't need the support pieces so I simply unscrewed those, put the caps on the rod and pushed them until they were snug against the bathroom wall. The rubber "o" ring in the cap keeps them in place. It looks great.

Beautiful straightforward design. The installation is a pleasure -- the hidden bracket screws to wall, and the visible part screws over it to hide joint and fasteners.
Especially love the polished chrome with matching curtain rod.
